185 Empty Chairs Tribute

Peter Majendie's Reflection of Loss of Lives, Livelihoods and Living in Neighbourhood installation, is now on the site of St Paul's Trinity Pacific Presbyterian Church.

The white chairs symbolise those who lost their lives in the earthquake on 22 February 2011. The individuality of each chair pays tribute to the uniqueness of each person represented. The installation includes armchairs, dining room chairs, a wheel chair and even a baby capsule. The 185 square metres of grass that the chairs sit on represents new growth and regeneration.
